The winery is bustling these days; we are bottling wine, labeling wine, and prepping wine club. I love wine club season because it feels like a season. Out with the old and in with the new! We are releasing four wines this winter.

You should have all received your wine club orders by now. You have a week to make any changes, and then credit cards will be charged on 2/15/2021. You can start to pick up your wines in the tasting room on 2/17/2021, and the shipments will go out on 2/22/2021.

Please feel free to stop by the tasting room this week to taste through the new releases if you want to make any changes.

Hello Friends,

And just like that, we can reopen. It honestly makes no sense to me, since COVID seems to be raging.  It feels really %$&*!@# to be used as a pawn in this year's political battleground.  Hopefully, the next political move will be to allow our kids back in school.   Nonetheless, I am grateful to be able to open my business.  The tasting room will be open for outdoor service with the below hours.  I know that we can provide a safe outdoor experience for you. if you feel sick or have been exposed please respect the fact that if we have to close for exposure, our business and employees suffer.

My dear friend Shawna who made the adorable COVID 19 ornaments, has struck again. She has learned to etch on wine bottles. Together, we would love to present a great gift idea for Valentine's Day. You can choose the wine and add up to three lines of text. Each line is 5 dollars and can accommodate up to 25 letters per line. You can also choose the color of the text, either gold or silver, or a mix of both. Shawna will be taking orders until February 10th, and your custom made gift will be ready for pick up on February 12th.

Transcendence received a warning from the City of Lompoc. On Friday, Joey and I were sitting outside on the deck waiting for customers to pick up wine.  Someone drove by and saw us and reported us to the City claiming we were open illegally. I hope the person who reported us gets a really bad case of Halitosis and nobody ever wants to kiss them again, EVER!!

Hello Friends!

We say, "Life happens over a bottle of wine." These words could not be more accurate. There is a lot of real-life going around right now. As promised, I have some incredible specials for you this week:

Our TGIF wine is the 2017 La Paloma Syrah. I was trying to hold on to this wine and age it to perfection before re-releasing it, but it is all yours. First come, first served. $25/bottle-6 bottle max.

Speaking of aged to perfection, we have been saving this wine for a special occasion, so you can consider this a "Pandemic Special." Our 2014 Pay Dirt. This perfectly aged wine is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. The bottle itself is gorgeous and will make a great gift. $55/bottle plus your wine club discount.

Regarding shipping, until the end of the year, 50% OFF SHIPPING for wine club members. The more wine you ship, the more wine you save. A lot of people have asked me if we will defy the public health order and remain open. Here is my answer: I would love to, I wish I could, and I am in complete solidarity with folks who are standing up for their very essential livelihoods. I don't think I can take another setback (losing my license), and I really can't afford a hefty fine. I do not believe that taking the virus seriously (which we do) and keeping our business open safely (which we do) are mutually exclusive. Nobody questions the morality of businesses that are allowed to be open. However, I have been accused of not caring for the elderly, not taking the virus seriously, and not doing my part. Every business is essential to someone. I have essential and non-forgiving obligations. I especially have the most amazing and essential employees who have children and obligations of their own. My heart is breaking for those businesses who had to throw in the towel, and it hurts just the same for those whose families have been shattered by COVID.

Yesterday, the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors voted to send a letter to the Governor requesting to remove San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties from the Southern California Region of the COVID-19 map and to create a new "sub-region" for the Central Coast. The Public Health Officers for all three Central Coast counties have also submitted a request to the State Public Health officials. Please sign this petition.

We will keep our hours the same because we are hopeful that we will be back on the deck soon. Tina has the week off, so Joey and I will be filling in her hours. As long as there is no consumption, we can still have 25% occupancy, so come by and hang out, pick up some bottles, ship a case or two!

Hello Friends,

This is the second time this year that Santa Barbara County wineries are forced to shut down while our Governor's winery remains open. He sure didn't lump Napa in with Southern California or the San Joaquin Valley to prevent tourism from those areas. Nice job Gavin!!  

NOT DETERRED!!

Transcendence will remain open this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, from 12-5ish. Please enjoy a glass of wine on the deck. The weather is beautiful. Friendship and sunshine are essential for the immune system. 

After this weekend, Transcendence will remain open with our regular hours for pick up, and we will be out there hustling the streets delivering wine to as many customers for as many hours of the days as we can. If we are closed, we will have a massive wine supply at our house, so call or email me anytime!

I have had an outpouring of inquiries regarding the recent closures of small businesses in our area. Everyone has been so kind and wants to know how they can help?

Here is how you can help:

1. Drink and buy wine from local wineries as opposed to grocery stores who are not affected by the closures

2. Send wine and or wine club as a gift for the holidays-

3. For the love of God, when we open next month, please DON'T PARTICIPATE IN DRY JANUARY

We have some great gifts other than wine in the tasting room. Transcendence, along with over 100 local wineries, was featured in a beautifully bound coffee style book. The suggested retail price is $60. Transcendence will be selling them for $50. (picture below)

Hello Friends,

In honor of Veterans Day, will be closed tonight. Thank you to all who have served and all those who support those that have served.

Our hours this week are Thursday 4-7, Friday 12-7, and Saturday and Sunday 12-5.

Our TGIF wine this week will be our 2018 PROVIDENCE. This is the new vintage of our Pay Dirt. We had to ditch the Pay Dirt name because of a trademark issue, but Providence is an even stronger name. We have never made enough of this wine to have it on our TGIF list, but in 2018 we were blessed to make enough for our TGIF program.

Providence-[prov-i-duhns] a manifestation of divine care or direction.

This word resonates with us because growing and making grapes into wine often feels like divine intervention. A dynamic blend of 34% Cabernet Sauvignon from Grimms Bluff Vineyard, 33% Sangiovese from Adobe Canyon Vineyard in the Los Olivos District, and 33% Syrah from Dorigo Vineyard in Ballard Canyon. In Italy, this type of blend would be called a Super Tuscan. The silky tannins, refined structure, and distinct layers are very enjoyable. Drinkable and ageable...Enjoy it either way!

It is hard to believe that it is already Halloween, and this year is wrapping up in just two months. The holiday season will certainly be a strange one this year and particularly hard for our ederly who are still in isolation.

Fall 2020

Hello Friends,

GOMBATTE KUDASAI!!!  When I lived in Japan, I learned this wonderful Japanese phrase full of nuance but hard to translate.  It is sort of the equivalent of when we say “good luck” or “ go for it.”  My translation would be more like, “I know you have worked very hard, you are exhausted, but keep going, I’m your biggest fan!”  I say this to Joey all the time during Harvest.  Months without a day off and doing super physically demanding work starts to tire your spirit.

I feel like all of us could use someone cheering us on and whisper in our ears, Gombatte Kudasai.  The effects of this pandemic are truly exhausting and have tired our spirits.  It is hard to keep going; it is hard to watch the impact of isolation amongst our elderly.  It is devastating to hear stories of people who have lost loved ones or friends whose health will never be the same because of the virus.  I am saddened by all the closed businesses and families whose livelihoods and dreams have been crushed. Perhaps our youth have lost the most, and when I listen to my children and their friends, my heart aches for them. Distance learning is something to endure, not enjoy. Losing the passion and love for school is a tragedy with unimaginable consequences. Being a teenager, full of hormones and, competitive drive while not connecting with people or playing sports is just downright depressing. I try every day to count my blessings and acknowledge the silver linings of COVID.  I have a long list.  Unfortunately, the list that identifies the truly messed up part of COVID is much longer.  I just want to acknowledge and thank every last one of you.  I know you have worked very hard. I know you are exhausted; keep up the good work; I am your biggest fan!  And I hear your encouragement and support back.  Thank you for taking care of us (Transcendence); your support and love are incredible.

Enjoy these wines, gather safely, and cheer on the people in your life whose spirits are tired.

We are happy to announce the 2020 Fall Release! Here are the new wines that are currently in the tasting room and will also be released for wine club:

Hello Friends,

There are two types of harvests; Fast and furious and long and drawn out.  This harvest is the fast and furious version, what sometimes takes three months is taking a month!!  

Even though Santa Barbara is now in the Covid Red Zone, we, unfortunately, are not able to open with reduced capacity.  However, our beautiful deck remains open and hopefully, the air quality will not be too bad.  Restaurants can accommodate indoor dining, so make sure you support a local restaurant and enjoy a nice meal out this weekend!

Hello Friends,

When you get to try the Rose´ next year, you can thank our Beautiful and hardworking Tina because she made it yesterday!! Not only does Tina host an amazing tasting room experience, but she also is an incredible home school mom AND a fantastic winemaker!

Let's see...so far we have brought in Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Grenache for the Rose´, and we will be getting in more Pinot Noir next week as well as Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo.  Joey is definitely in that mode where there is no way he can complete everything he has to do in a day.  All he can do is wake up as early as he can, work as hard as he can for as long as he can and start over the next day.  But he is totally in his groove and loving every exhausting minute.  If you do stop by the winery, remember to bring food, because he can't consume enough of it right now...LOL!!!

This week we are pouring the 2018 Cork Tree Syrah for TGIF, $25/bottle.  Let me know if you would like to pick up, stash, ship with your October wine club, or have free local delivery.  We are more than happy to deliver wine locally to anyone!
