Hello Friends,
I want to share a little story about how we started making Chardonnay. It is hard to believe how many years have passed and how many wines we have made over the years. We have a handful that has remained the same and have turned into Transcendence traditions. The Zotovich Vineyard Chardonnay is one of these traditions.
We have been making the Zotovich Vineyard Chardonnay in the same style from the same block in the vineyard since 2010. Many of you have these past vintages cellared in your collection, and I hope you have the opportunity to enjoy them side by side. I was stubborn at first with Chardonnay because I didn’t really care for it and didn’t want to sell it. Joey, who loves a challenge and probably loves to conquer my stubbornness, set out to change my mind on Chardonnays. Joey and I embarked on a fun recon mission to find the perfect glass of Chardonnay that he could emulate. We bought wines online, from wine shops and visited as many tasting rooms as possible.
We fell in love with the wines of Chablis which are fresh, clean, and wrapped in acidity. These wines pair effortlessly with food and are so refreshing and satisfying on their own. Our favorite producer was Domaine Raveneau, a French producer based in the Chablis wine region of Burgundy.
All of our Chardonnays are fermented in stainless steel, and some stay in stainless while others are transferred to neutral French Oak barrels. The Zotovich Chardonnay is fermented and aged in stainless steel before bottling. There is no malolactic fermentation or any other winemaking intervention, just a crisp and clean representation of what Chardonnay truly tastes like. Joey has endeavored to make these Zotovich Vineyard Chardonnays in the Chablis fashion and nails them every year. If you didn’t get a Zotovich Chardonnay in your wine club this time, or if you are like me and have sworn all Chardonnay off for life, I say give it a try and make sure you take advantage of the next time this wine is on our TGIF deal and enjoy the tradition!

You should have all received your wine club order by now. You have until Sunday to make any changes and then you can pick up in the tasting room anytime after February 8th.

This week, we have another preview of our winter wine club selection for TGIF. The 2021 Lafond Vineyard Grenache is outstanding, and we have not released a Lafond Grenache since 2013. We are welcoming 2023 with open arms and a fresh perspective. Last week, I was asked to describe 2022 in one word. After much thought, my word was "juxtaposition." There were such amazing highs coupled with incredible lows. My daughter, who was with me that night, also received the question and her answer was quite different. Her word was "even." She reflected that 2022 had no significant highs or lows in the year. Some of my most notable highs and lows were with her. It just amazes me how our perspectives shape our outlook. For me, 2023 is all about perspective and managing my ability to pivot my perspective.

Hello Friends,
First and foremost, you are going to love these wines. They are up there with the best of the best and will continue to age with grace.
Do you ever feel like nothing can surprise you? The last thing I want to be is immune to bad news, but I find myself repeating this phrase repeatedly: "this isn't my first rodeo." Colloquialisms and idioms are forms of communication that resonate with us all. They are, as they ever were, the universal language.
We feel like it is "just the tip of the iceberg" and a "matter of time" before the "bottom drops out" and we all "go down in flames." We are all "up to our eyeballs" with bad news, but we remind ourselves that "shit happens" and "this isn't our first rodeo." We know how to "make ends meet," and we have "dodged a bullet" before. We sure have "our work cut out for us," though. Good thing we know how to "pivot on a dime." "We weren't born yesterday," so "through thick and thin," we will "pull ourselves up by the bootstraps." "It is all part of the process" and "everything happens for a reason." Remember to "stay in the moment" because "we are all in the same boat." We will "rise to the occasion" "with flying colors." "Keep your chin up," "hard work pays off," "there is a light at the end of the tunnel," and "every cloud has a silver lining." "We've got this!"
Right? We've got this! You got this!! Inflation, recession, markets crashing, war, devastating yields, social unrest, erratic weather, political dysfunction, energy turmoil, NO PROBLEM!
"At the end of the day," what matters is that you pay attention to your health, love your family, make time for your friends, enjoy a hobby, savor tasty food and drink delicious wine made with love. "Nothing else matters."
